The photobook How to Make the Decision to Leave is a photo essay in which film director and photographer Park Chan-wook records, in photographs, the scenes he encountered from the moment he decided to make the film Decision to Leaveuntil the shoot was completed. It brings together meetings with actors, details from the set, chance landscapes on location, and objects and light he discovered on his own outside the world of the film, quietly yet densely showing how “Park Chan-wook the director” and “Park Chan-wook the photographer” overlap and diverge in the process of preparing and making a film. The book goes beyond simple making-of material for Decision to Leave and also serves as a record of how an artist observes and accumulates his own sensations and time.
